"My husband & guitarist Doug de Vries and I wrote this afro ‘hi-life’ together after a weekend of inspiration at WOMADELAIDE. We bumped into Chico Cesar (on his first tour of Australia) a couple of nights running and spent much of the weekend with him, instant soul mates. We three have continued the friendship. Chico did me the honour of singing this soulful guest vocal on Hang On, recorded at Peixe Boi Estudio, Joao Pessoa, Paraiba. The lyric is for the friends and ‘fairy godmother types’ who help you along the way."

Oh my mother, mother never understood me
Oh brother, brother do you have a remedy?
Any word you send I’ll memorise by heart and then
Learn to live above this endless searching need
And he said:
Hang on, yeah hold on, hang in there
Hang on, oh hold on, hang in there
Hang on, yeah hold on, hang in there
Hang on, oh hold on
Teacher taught me symmetry of dark and light
Bend and stretching boundaries is part of life
Ex-police musician friend who’d one been shot
Showed me true ascension giving all he got
Oh my mother, mother never understood me
Oh brother, brother do you have a remedy?
I will smother the solution potion in deep
To recover and if needed I’ll repeat
And he said:
Hang on, yeah hold on, hang in there
Hang on, oh hold on, hang in there
Hang on, yeah hold on, hang in there
Hang on, oh hold on
Met a vibrant lady, tailored her own rules
Foes attend her parties end up joking fools
And she said:
Hang on, yeah hold on, hang in there
Hang on, oh hold on, hang in there
Hang on, yeah hold on, hang in there
Hang on, oh hold on
